The NOAA UAS Program Office to host the SHOUT Technical Interchange Meeting

The use of the Global Hawk UAS for Environmental Intelligence (EI) will be discussed at NOAA Headquarters on June 2nd. The NOAA UAS Program’s Sensing Hazards with Operational Unmanned Technology (SHOUT) project has been an evaluation of an observing strategy deploying a high altitude, long endurance Global Hawk Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to mitigate risk to hurricane and other high impact weather forecasting due to satellite data gaps. The team will be discussing the SHOUT concept of operations, […]

Alaskan River Watch 2017 – Arctic Rapid Response Use of UAS to Support Alaskan River Ice Breakup Monitoring Complete

NOAA UAS PROGRAM AND NWS COORDINATE WITH NATIONAL AND ALASKAN STATE PARTNERS CONDUCTED UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEM (UAS) OPERATIONS. The annual spring breakup of Alaskan rivers brings the threat of flooding from ice jams that dam river channels and cause water to backup and inundate communities. NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS) and the Alaska Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management have monitored Alaskan rivers during breakup to provide advanced warning of flooding for several decades

NOAA UAS Program Briefs at AUVSI’s Xponential

AUVSI XPONENTIAL is the largest international conference for unmanned systems and robotics. Technology innovations in unmanned vehicle systems have been racing ahead, and commercial applications have recently “taken off” as aviation and maritime regulations become more user friendly.  These and many other topics were discussed during AUVSI’s Xponential in Dallas, Texas May 8th-11th. NOAA UAS Program Director, Robbie Hood, began the week speaking at the AIAA/AUVSI Third Workshop on Civilian Applications of Unmanned Aircraft Systems
